Greater Anglia has made more types of tickets available using digital devices in a bid to make rail travel in East Anglia even greener!
Before this introduction, digital walk-up tickets could only be purchased on the day of travel using a barcode m-ticket via the Greater Anglia app.
Alternatively, they could be collected via ticket machines or ticket offices using a unique code.
Following customer demand, Greater Anglia has now made the tickets available as e-tickets meaning that those travelling can choose to print at home or show them using their mobile phones independent of the Greater Anglia app, an option to load the tickets onto the Greater Anglia app is also available.
This new facility offers customers more choice in how they wish to show their tickets. E-tickets feature a QR code which can be scanned at a ticket barrier removing any need to insert a paper ticket and remove it at the barrier.
E-tickets now available include Super Off-peak, Off-peak, Single, Anytime Return and Anytime Day Return tickets. The option to use a to digital ticket also means saving on paper usage and will also allow passengers to move more quickly through the barriers. Customers using e-tickets will no longer need to pick up tickets from the ticket office or machines at the station, saving more time.
Martin Moran, Greater Anglia’s Commercial, Customer Services and Train Presentation Director, said: “We know customers want their journeys to be as quick and seamless as possible, which is why we’ve made more tickets available digitally.
“This will help reduce the amount of paper waste, meaning rail passengers’ journeys are greener than ever before. Sustainability is so important to us at Greater Anglia and we’re doing all we can to reduce our impact on the environment.”

Perhaps Greater Anglia should order more extra Class 745s including some for London-Norwich intercity and some for Stansted Express (Liverpool St-Stansted Express). Rather than sharing these units on the 2 routes that Stadler have manufactured them. And possibly order few extra Class 755 Bi-Mode as well.
