Steam locomotive to pass through Oxenholme Lake District this Saturday

A West Coast Railways steam locomotive will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in and Blackburn on Saturday 4th September 2021.

The locomotive is on a special railtour. 35018 British India Line is hauling the Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday.

The railtour departs behind an electric locomotive at approximately 07:10 am.

The railtour will then head for Carlisle, where it will make stops at Milton Keynes Central (07:45), Rugby (08:21), Nuneaton (08:40), Crewe (09:36) and Preston (10:32) before arriving at Carnforth North Junction at 11:00.

Here, the steam locomotive will be added to the front of the train which will depart with the locomotive at 11:26, steaming through Oxenholme (11:41) and Penrith (12:20), it will go non-stop to Carlisle, where it will arrive at 12:41.

After around an hour in Carlisle, the steam locomotive will depart Carlisle at 14:22 bound for London Euston. It will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswald (14:46) and will stop for water at Appleby (15:06).

Continuing down the Settle and Carlisle line, the locomotive will pass over the Ribblehead Viaduct at approx 15:55, continuing to Settle, passing through Settle Junction (16:14) where it heads for Hellifield, for a water stop, at 16:20.

From here, 35018 British India Line will pass through Clitheroe (17:11) and Blackburn (17:32) before arriving at Preston at 17:54.

At Preston, 35018 British India Line is taken off the train, and an electric locomotive will take the same path back to London Euston, calling at Crewe (19:27), Nuneaton (20:27), Rugby (20:49), Milton Keynes Central (21:20) and Watford Junction at 22:03.

The railtour will arrive back at its final destination of London Euston at 22:29.
