Children age 5 to 9 years old can enjoy the new ‘Junior Rail Passbook’ at Southern stations on their rail journeys during the summer holidays.
The passbook has been designed to engage and entertain children and is full to the brim with activities based around railway stations, such as fun scavenger hunts.
The passbook is an attempt to encourage families to get back on the rails this summer and enjoy all the fun that train travel has to offer and will be available at Network Rail managed stations across the south.
Some of the fantastic activities include an animal safari at Waterloo and even treasure hunting at London Bridge. An activity has been organised for each of the seven Network Rail managed stations in the region.
Those enjoying the activities can get a stamp at each of the stations that they visit, which can be found at a special location that is provided within the Junior Rail Passbook.
Southern stations are pushing the boat out to welcome passengers back to the railway this summer and the Passbook is a fun and family-friendly way to do this.
Southern has also launched ‘The Great British Summer Holiday campaign’ earlier last week and ‘Wish Trees’ in a bid to embrace the staycation trend this summer and encourage leisure travel by train to people of all ages.
A passbook for junior travellers can be picked up at:
- London Bridge at the information point next to the ticket office
- London Victoria at the information pods
- Waterloo at the station reception and also at the main information desk
- Charing Cross at the ticket office
- Canon Street at the ticket office
- Clapham Junction at the station reception
- Guildford at the station office next to the ticket barriers
Lisa Iannidinardo, Stations Project Manager said, “We were looking for fun and exciting ways to welcome passengers back to the railway this summer. One of our team wanted to encourage younger passengers to explore stations across our region and came up with the Junior Rail Passbook idea.
“This last year has been difficult for children being in and out of schools and lockdowns so it’s a great opportunity to re-awaken their inner explorers!”
