Yesterday (1st June) the multi-story car park at Leeds railway station reopened to the public, complete with electric vehicle charging points.

The car park was closed in May 2019 for the construction of Platform Zero.

Operated by APCOA, the refurbished car park has 307 pre-bookable spaces along with 56 electric vehicle charging points, 30 are live now, with another 26 due in the Autumn.

Leeds is the first major station that Network Rail has installed charging points in and begins their commitment to install electric vehicle charging points.

Passengers will be able to re-charge their cars while they travel on the train, with each point able to fully charge a car within 2 hours.

As part of a promotion to celebrate the opening of the car park, electric vehicle users will be able to charge their cars for free throughout June.

After the promotion ends, drivers using the specially marked green bays will be able to pay via the APCOA Connect app.

Network Rail says 10% of the spaces at their managed car parks will have charging points installed by March 2024.

Jo Lewington, Network Rail’s Chief Environment & Sustainability Officer said: “As part of our wider Environmental Sustainability Strategy, we’re working towards delivering a low-emission railway, and supporting the move to electric and ultra-low emissions vehicles is a key part of that.

“We hope that by providing affordable, efficient and reliable charging points we can encourage more electric vehicles onto the road and help promote healthier air in and around our stations.”
