The (CFPS) has launched a £10,000 appeal to raise the funds needed to complete bodywork repairs on 40145.

40145 is currently on a 12-month hire agreement with Locomotive Services Ltd at Crewe and has been operating ECS and charter trains prior to being taken out of service.

During preparation for the repaint into BR Green with small yellow panels, the condition of the locomotive’s bodywork was found to be worse than expected.

The CFPS has said that these repairs have left the society with a £10,000 shortfall for the repairs before the repaint is completed.

Once the repair is completed, we should be able to see two BR green Class 40s on the mainline once again, with LSL also operating D213 Andania on the mainline with a similar hire agreement.

You can keep up to date with all the work being completed on a number of Class 40s by joining the Friends of The Class 40 Preservation Society group on Facebook.

40145 was the first Class 40 to enter preservation when it was purchased in February 1984.

The locomotive was built by English Electric and entered service in May 1951 and was one of four ‘Whistler’s’ to be allocated to Neville Hill, but in her working life was also allocated to York, Healey Mills, Gateshead, Haymarket and Longsight.
