The Mid Hants Railway (MHR) (also known as The Watercress Line) has announced that they will be hosting a 1940s themed event at their railway this June!
Recreating the atmosphere of Britain during World War Two (WW2), the railway has organised a variety of activities and displays to take place over Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of June 2021, including:
- Military re-enactors
- Pearl’s Pin-up Parlour offering 1940s makeovers at Ropley Station
- Spitfire flypast (subject to weather conditions)
Visitors are welcomed to dress up and further add to recreating the atmosphere of the 1940s across the railway.
Anyone wishing to visit the line for this event is advised to pre-book tickets online to avoid disappointment. Also on MHR’s website are details such as pricing for the event.
For more information, please visit the War On The Line webpage on Mid Hants Railway’s website here.
General Manager at the Watercress Line Simon Baggott said: “The WW2 era on the railways was a time of great resourcefulness, pulling together and using that famous Blitz spirit – all to the backdrop of iconic music and fashion. We can’t wait to see visitors kitted out in their 1940s attire, enjoying the vintage steam trains and vehicles and music from the era. It looks set to be a really enjoyable weekend.”

I must say, I think it’s a great idea, even of the Mid-Hants Railway (of whom we all know, as The Watercress Line) on having A Wartime Event, let alone turn the clock back to the 1940s.
Let’s Hope this event brings Eventual Success to this Hampshire Railway Heritage Transportation Destination… as well as Benefit the Local Surrounding Economy.
