A new outdoor seating area has been created at Birmingham New Street railway station.
Picnic benches have been erected on the Eastern Plaza outside the station entrance towards the Moor Street Link and Smallbrook Queensway.
The new area will allow passengers to relax and enjoy the weather as the lockdown restrictions continue to ease.
In addition, for the next 2 weeks a local ice-cream van will be on the plaza to help everyone enjoy the sunshine.
Network Rail say passenger number through the station are continuing to increase with 98,373 journeys made last Saturday, this is around 61% of the levels seen before the pandemic began.
Craig Stenning, station manager at Birmingham New Street, said: “We’re so pleased that more people are returning to the city and travelling more again. Birmingham New Street is right at the core of the city and we can’t wait to feel the heartbeat of Birmingham again properly. The new picnic benches will be a great space for passengers and the public to safely unwind in the summer sunshine.”
