Train operator have announced some upcoming outages to the Smartcard system that passengers may need to be aware of.

The Rail Delivery Group are upgrading the Smartcard system across the rail network and in order for them to carry out this work the system will need to be taken offline for a few days over the next few months.

Sometimes all c2c stations will be affected and sometimes only those in the Travelcard and Extended Oyster validity areas.

This first outage will be on the 24th April and will affect all c2c stations. Other outages are planned on July 17th and 24th, August 21st and 28th, and on September 18th. (Details of affected stations for these other dates will be announced later)

c2c have produced an FAQ for passengers who have questions about loading tickets during the outage, buying tickets at machines and buying tickets on the app etc. You can read their Smartcard Outage FAQ here.

  1. Maybe c2c should issue fines for people putting feet up on the seats whether it’s busy or not. As it’s becoming a current problem on c2c trains. And the commuters who put their feet up are making it lot harder for cleaners to clean the seats on the trains.
