The Mid Norfolk Railway is currently running an appeal to raise funds to rebuild Kimberley Level Crossing, which crosses the B1108 Norwich to Watton Road.
The work follows on from the refurbishment of Yaxham Road level crossing in Dereham last year.
To rebuild the level crossing on the B1108 will cost around £25,000.
Charlie Robinson, the Chairman of The Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust, which owns and operates the railway said: “This work is essential to maintain and upgrade our operating line and must be done this year. As a result of Covid-19, the MNR like every other heritage railway, has had to deal with the financial impact of not operating last year. We have therefore launched this public appeal to help finance the work. Donations however small will be gratefully received”.
Donations can be made on the Mid Norfolk Railway website where information on how to donate via cheque or bank transfer can be found.
If you donate more than £200, you will receive a pair of tickets for a standard operating day, with the donor able to choose their day of travel.
Refurbishing the level crossing is the next step of the refurbishment of the Wymondham to Dereham line, and Kimberley Park station will also be replaced in addition to the level crossing.
The newly laid line will continue the process of replacing wooden sleepers with concrete ones to ensure easy maintenance in the future.
Kimberley level crossing will remain a gated crossing, and will be operated by a volunteer crossing keeper, the new crossing, will, however, see the road and rail deck replaced with the same technology as that found at Dereham to reduce noise as traffic crosses over the level crossing.
