Network Rail has announced that work is due to take place later this month on the railway line between Ely and Kings Lynn.
The essential work will see almost 1 mile of railway track and sleepers renewed between Littleport and Downham Market. At the same time 120 tonnes of ballast will be renewed.
The project of track works is due to take place on the weekend of 20th/21st February.
A rail replacement bus service will be in operation between Ely and Kings Lynn while the works are carried out.
Passengers who need to make essential journeys on that weekend should check before they travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
Ellie Burrows, Network Rail‘s route director for Anglia, said: “This work is vital to prevent track issues that cause disruption and keep services running safely, smoothly and reliably for our passengers. When complete, this work will reduce the number of delays and cancellations caused by track problems, benefitting passengers traveling between Ely and Kings Lynn.”

Would there be a new railway line that could link up from the Breckland Line to the Ely-Peterborough Line as a avoiding line. And to build a new railway station to the north of Ely city centre as the current Ely railway station serves. And for Crosscountry to continue with their services to Stansted Airport from the Midlands. And East Midlands Railway to avoid Ely using the avoiding line. Whilst Greater Anglia and Great Northern will continue to serve Ely.
