Over Christmas, more than 200 rail workers will be working on a £600,000 project to improve the railway in Doncaster.
From late on Christmas Eve until the morning of Sunday 27th December, major work will be completed to renew track that runs through Platform 4 at Doncaster station.
The project will see the old rails, sleepers and ballast removed and replaced, and whilst this is taking place, work will be taking place to upgrade the signalling equipment and overhead wires.
With no timetabled train services on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, Network Rail is using the opportunity to carry out the major work and avoid disruption for passengers.
Major work is also taking place at London King’s Cross and means changes to train services over the festive period.
Ricky Collins, Works Delivery Supervisor for Network Rail, said: “Over the festive period, I’ll be out on site with the team and my role will be to manage and oversee the project and make sure that the work completes on time.
“Working over Christmas can be tricky as I do have children and I love to see them opening their presents. Even though it’s a bit of a balancing act, I always make sure that I get to spend this important time with them.
“I’m really proud to work on the railway and I know how important this project is and the benefits it will bring all those who travel on this route.”

If Network Rail are to continue with the electrification projects. Except Oxford and Swansea which will not happening. Maybe they could plan ahead to electrify the Glasgow South Western Line in Scotland including: Glasgow Central-East Kilbride, Ayr-Stranraer, Ayr-Kilmarnock and Dumfries-Carlisle via Gretna Green. With the Class 380 and Class 385 EMUs to operate on those routes.

Good luck Network Rail rail workers wearing orange kits and to upgrade the railways throughout Christmas and the New Year. 🧡
