Stadler has announced that they have signed a contract with state-owned railway company Comboios de Portugal (CP) for 22 FLIRT trains.
The order for the 22 trains amounts to about 158m Euros and will be Stadler‘s first FLIRT trains on the Iberian Peninsula.
There will be 10 electrical multiple units and 12 bimodal units. The order includes 4 years of maintenance as well as training.
The modular design of the trains means that in the future the diesel generators could be replaced with batteries.
The trains have the capacity for 375 passengers and can reach speeds of up to 160 kph, they have space for wheelchairs and cycles. Wifi will be available onboard as well as the option for vending machines.
More than 1900 FLIRT trains have been sold to 21 countries, making it Stadler’s best selling train. In the UK FLIRT trains are in use/on order with Greater Anglia and Transport for Wales.

But why has Stadler made the Class 745 and Class 755 with only one door on each carriage both sides and not two. I don’t understand why they couldn’t make the Flirt trains like they have in other European countries. Except for the Class 399 Citylink Tram-trains used on Sheffield Supertram that has 2 doors.
