The BR Class 8 Steam Locomotive Trust has released details of their Boiler Tube Appeal.

Currently, 71000 Duke of Gloucester is undergoing a major overhaul to bring it back to mainline condition, and running is hoped to start in late 2021.

71000’s boiler is made up of 136 small tubes and 40 flue tubes.

The small tubes provide the surface area to allow the steam to be produced whilst the flue tubes are larger to house the superheater elements.

Sponsors of either the small tubes or the flue tubes will receive a numbered certificate to show the position of the tubes sponsored.

Small tubes are available to sponsor at £140 each, whilst the flue tubes cost £500 each.

At the time of writing, 14 small tubes have been sponsored, and 9 flue tubes have been sponsored.
