RailAdvent has been sent an update on the overhaul of LMS Black 5 steam locomotive No. 45491.

45491 is currently based at Loughborough MPD on the Great Central Railway undergoing an overhaul/restoration.

The above photo, supplied to RailAdvent by Phil Wainwright, shows the new steel tube plate for 45491.

The flues have now been screwed into the copper firebox tubeplate, which is also new.

Most of ‘the smalls’ are in position ready for being expanded, which is expected in the next week or so.

The owners of 45491 are looking for some of the AWS equipment and possibly a speedo head for the locomotive.

It is great to report on good progress being made to 45491, and we look forward to hearing more about this locomotive in the future.
