On Sunday 6th September, LMS Stanier Jubilee No. 45699 Galatea hauled The Waverley from York to Carlisle and return via the Settle & Carlisle Line running as scrapped sister locomotive No. 45562 Alberta.
The Waverley is a tour run by The Railway Touring Company which runs from York to Carlisle and return along the Settle & Carlisle Line.
The Waverley usually runs in the summer months every year mostly running every Sunday once a week. However, due to Covid-19 most of The Waverley tours due to run in 2020 were cancelled.
Fortunately, two Waverleys were able to run this year, the first running on 23rd August hauled by 45562 and 7th September also hauled by 45562.
The Waverley would see 45562/45699 head through Church Fenton, Garforth, Leeds, Shipley, Bingley, Keighley, Skipton, Gargrave, Hellifield, Settle, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Ribblehead, Garsdale, Kirkby Stephen & Appleby.
In this video, RailView captured the Jubilee on the outward leg at:
- Church Fenton, Yorkshire, passing through at 10:03 1 minute late.
- Gargrave, Yorkshire, passing through at 11:36 on time.
- Ribblehead Viaduct, Ribblehead, Yorkshire, passing through at 11:56 14 minutes late.

Well done White & White. Good to see you back. Really cheered up an old train buff.Hope to see your fine work again soon.
Brilliant! Whilst I am “LNER” geographically (since 1944), I love LMS locos too – esp “Black Fives”, Jubilees, and Royal Scots – well, I like ALL steam locos of every BRITISH region, including the Southern, where I spent my schooldays. I also enjoyed your video on here, of 46100 “Royal Scot”, a favourite of mine from very early childhood (1940s), which is so good to see running in preservation! Altogether, this has really made my day! Incidentally, I believe I was registered with ‘Rail Advent’ until a couple or so months ago when my PC crashed (or most likely, maliciously targeted), so I hope I can resume the connection! Many thanks once again for the great videos – a superb antidote to Coronavirus-incited steam train starvation! 🙂
