The B17 Steam Locomotive Trust has announced that the Trust and B17 No. 61673 ‘Spirit of Sandringham’ will be leaving the Llangollen Railway and will relocate to CTL Seal Limited, in Sheffield.
Now readers will most likely recognise the CTL Seal brand as they are currently helping to construct 72010 alongside ‘The Clan Project’ (The Standard Steam Locomotive Company Ltd).
Located in Sheffield, CTL Seal has a skilled and experienced team to work alongside the Trust in their facility.
There are benefits to this relocation for both projects, involving the flexibility of resources with either funding or demands, as well as both being supported by CTL Seal.
Plans are in hand regarding the moving of the static chassis from Llangollen Engineering to CTL Seal; this is planned to be completed later in 2020.
This will include the movement of the tender from the Mid Norfolk Railway, at Dereham, to CTL Seal in Sheffield, which is expected to be in the next 2/3 weeks.
The B17 Steam Locomotive Trust have also confirmed to RailAdvent that they have purchased track components to create two 30ft track panels, and these were delivered to CTL Seal last Thursday.
After completing all the design work for to make 61673 a rolling chassis for the first time, complete with the design approval to allow 61673 ‘Spirit of Sandringham’ to run on the mainline, the B17 Steam Locomotive Trust has confirmed to RailAdvent that they have placed an order with William Cook Castings Ltd for the manufacture of patterns that will be used for the casting of 6 Horn Blocks.
Moving dates for the tender and mainframe will be published nearer the time.
