Two Inter7City HSTs have had their faces covered by train operator, ScotRail, to help raise awareness about the mandatory rule of wearing a face covering on ScotRail trains and in stations.
The wearing of face coverings was made mandatory on Monday 22 June. Since this date, around 90% of passengers have followed the requirement.
However, the train operator has estimated that only 60%, and in some cases as low as 40% of passengers are covering their face on some routes.
Some passengers have also been seen removing their face covering once on board their trains.
Additionally, more than 20,000 face coverings have been given to passengers for free, with staff being provided masks, coverings and visors to help keep them and passengers safe.
Syeda Ghufran, ScotRail Engineering Director, said: “While it’s encouraging to see that most people across the country are following the requirement and covering their face when travelling, we need everyone to take personal responsibility for their travel choices.
“The mandatory wearing of face coverings helps keep you, your fellow customers, and our people safe.
“By applying a face covering to two of our iconic high-speed Inter7City trains, we hope to help raise more awareness about the mandatory wearing of face coverings on our trains and in our stations.”
Avanti West Coast have also put a mask on one of their Pendolino trains, have you seen any of the trains wearing masks? Let us know in the comments below, or share a picture on our community page

When Hornby produce a limited edition hst in this livery all of the “Collectors” will be rubbing their mitts with glee and counting the ££££’s when they sell them for massively inflated prices to the real enthusiasts on Fleabay.
Well done ScotRail. Very impressive.
You can’t mask a train!
I like the face mask branding on the front and rear of the Class 43 HST. Nice one ScotRail.
GWR has train 800321 with a face-mask, but so far I’ve not had the opportunity to photograph it.
The shape of the class 43 lends itself to that type of image, having a mouth and chin.
