The Standard Steam Locomotive Company Limited, who are building , has launched an appeal to fundraise the money to start work on the boiler.

The first phase of the ‘Steam Raisers’ appeal has been launched to raise £60,000 to begin design work and secure the manufacturer who will complete the work on building the first Clan boiler since 1952.

Work on this phase of the project has commenced and will take up to two years to complete, as the team considers different options for the boiler design.

Geoff Turner, Engineering Director of THE ‘CLAN’ PROJECT, said: “The start
of work on ‘HENGIST’s boiler marks a major milestone in our project to build
the 1,000th BR Standard locomotive. However, we need your help if we are to
continue making progress.

“We appreciate this is a difficult time for many people, but if you are keen to
support us and can spare a small amount for a donation, it would be much
appreciated.”

The Company has also announced that their AGM for 2020 has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Allan Jones, Chairman of THE ‘CLAN’ PROJECT, said: “It is with great regret that we have decided to cancel our 2020 AGM. The safety of our members and supporters is our highest priority, particularly those people who are at higher risk from COVID-19. Though the current national situation has improved in recent weeks, we’re not in a position to guarantee that this will remain the case in the autumn, and given the age demographic of many of our members, we felt it would be best to make a clear decision well in advance of the event.

“In THE ‘CLAN’ PROJECT, we are committed to transparency, and our annual reports will still be distributed to members as normal. If you have any questions regarding this or other aspects of the project, please feel free to contact us via our website.”
