Leaky Finders Ltd has announced that they will be working closely with the Bodmin & Wenford Railway, taking on the duties of Cheif Mechanical Engineer (CME) temporarily for the line.
With lockdown restrictions being eased, the company have spent most of their time down on the Bodmin & Wenford Railway carrying out repairs to the line’s engines.
Two fitters on the railway have assisted Leaky Finders in undertaking this work.
During this period discussion between and railway and the company have led to the agreement being reached, whereby Leaky Finders will become acting CME for the line.
Great Western Railway 6400 Class No.6435
Attention was focused on 6435, where major work has been completed on the boiler following roughly 18 months out of traffic. A number of components needed replacing such as two large flu tubes, several gaskets and overhauling the safety valves.
With these repairs done, the engine needed to be reassembled and steam tests carried out, which were all passed. Running in is currently in progress to check all repairs have been successful.
Great Western Railway 5700 Class No.4612
Repairs have also been completed on 4612, namely fitting two new springs on the coupled wheels, renewing parts for the jockey valve and installing a new blower ring.
