Heritage Boiler Steam Services Ltd (HBSS) has posted an update on the boilers they are currently overhauling or restoring at their workshop.

Great Western Railway (GWR) 4200 Class No.4253

Much work has progressed on restoring 4200’s GWR Standard No.4 boiler.

The team have reached an advanced stage at building the outer firebox’s steel doorplate, with recent work seeing the firehole door trimmed.

New Build London, Midland and Scottish Railway ‘Patriot’ Class No.5551 “The Unknown Warrior”

Most of the boiler cladding for the firebox has been completed since the last update.

The top of the firebox is almost finished, with both sides seeing the majority of the cladding fitted, with more sections to be fitted. Holes have been cut out for the boiler washout plugs.

New Build GWR Hawksworth 1000 ‘County’ Class No.1014 “County of Glamorgan”

Drilling the holes to attach the firebox and boiler barrel has continued, with temporary bolts fitted in preparations for riveting at a later date.

Andrew Barclay Tank No.2320

Welding the new gauge frame’s pads on 2320’s boiler backhead has been completed, allowing the boiler to take one step closer to being ready for a hydraulic test.

W. G. Bagnall built 0-4-0ST No.2623 “Hawarden”

Following both trial fitting and trimming, 2623’s new doorplate has been bolted ready for riveting.
