The Wensleydale Railway has published on an update on the overhaul on one of their British Rail Mark 2A Coaches.
BR MK2A Coach
Thanks to a recent £50,000 grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the railway can continue with overhauling and refurbishing a number of the line’s BR MK2 carriages, which will form the popular Polar Express trains which will hopefully run this winter.
Contractors have progressed well so far, with all windows removed to allow repairs and sealing around the window frames.
Areas beyond repair in the floor or bodywork have been cut out, allowing new sections to be fit once formed.
Soon to be delivered to a specialist company, the battery charging alternator will undergo a full overhaul.
Supporting the Wensleydale Railway
With the railway losing income while closed due to COVID-19 and many fixed costs still needing to be paid, the line has launched a JustGiving appeal, with a generous supporter matching donations up to £50,000!
This means if the railway raises £50,000, the supporter will match this figure, meaning £100,000 will be donated to the line. For more information or to donate now, please click here.

The Wensleydale Railway (from which I myself previously visited ‘in-person’) As with other Heritage Railways across the UK… is doing great and very well within it’s own right.
Especially when it comes to fundraising and conjuring up ways to help combat/fight back Covid-19… The WR are doing A good job so far on restoring this passenger carriage and other rolling stock too.
I do hope the Wonderful Wensleydale Railway hopefully reopens back up and running soon.
Also, I wonder if they’ll once again be running their trains towards the West of Northallerton Again!.
