Toddington Standard Locomotive Ltd have posted an update on the restoration of their British Railways (BR) Standard Class 4 (2-6-0) No 76077, based at the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway.
A major milestone has been reached in the restoration, with the leading pony truck now ready for service following full restoration at Locomotive Maintenance Services, based in Loughborough.
Extensive work has been carried out on the pony truck to repair or replace every part. The frame and horn guides were found to be bent, with the damaged believed to have been caused by a derailment.
While restoring components such as the axleboxes boxes, stamped numbers from previous engines carrying these parts have been found, including 76054 (Same class as 76077), 80019 (BR Standard Class 4 (2-6-4T)) and 41294 (London, Midland and Scottish Railway Ivatt Class 2 (2-6-2T)).
76077’s locomotive frame is also at Locomotive Maintenance Services, where work continues on restoring it.
COVID-19 restrictions have meant volunteers have not been able to progress with much work, unfortunately.
