Heritage Boiler Steam Services Ltd (HBSS) has posted several photos showing the recent work they have been carrying out on a number of steam locomotive boilers at their workshop.
New Build London, Midland and Scottish Railway ‘Patriot’ Class No.5551 “The Unknown Warrior”
The team at HBSS has now started to form the firebox cladding for 5551.
They have completed the frame that each section fixes to, leaving enough space to fit lagging. So far the majority of driver’s side cladding, curved corner (linking driver’s side and top) and roughly half the top of the firebox has been completed.

New Build Great Western Railway Hawksworth 1000 ‘County’ Class No.1014 “County of Glamorgan”
Much riveting work has seen the boiler starting to take shape. Firstly, the sections which form the boiler barrel have been riveted together. Following this, the attention turned to the outer firebox, with several patch screws being fitted. Temporary bolts now attach the boiler barrel and firebox which is a major milestone in the boiler reconstruction. In the coming weeks, rivets will be fitted.
