London North Eastern Railway are celebrating the 1st anniversary of their Azuma trains, which have replaced older trains on the ECML. To celebrate the anniversary, LNER is inviting people to name an Azuma train.

In the last 12 months, LNER Azumas have carried 4.5m passengers, and have travelled more than 5 million miles.

LNER says it wants its passengers to get creative and come up with names that reflect LNER’s route.

The new names will be selected based on relevance to the route and will be applied to 10 Azuma trains.

LNER Managing Director David Horne said the first anniversary of Azuma in service is the perfect opportunity to include LNER customers and communities in the celebrations with the opportunity to name a train. “The LNER route that Azuma now travels is incredibly exciting, taking us from the misty Scottish Highlands to the city skyline of London and all of our destinations in between. We’re proud to start the next stage of the Azuma journey by honouring our customers and the communities we serve with this opportunity to create history. This is our chance to take the Azuma fleet into the LNER history books by selecting the train names that will last a generation. We’re excited to see the creativity of people from right along our route, and as LNER has quite a history of great train names, we very much welcome suggestions for this fantastic new fleet.”

  1. Call all the Azuma’s Tiny Tim because first class is now tiny compared to HST’S and class 91 first class, what a let down.

  2. ‘Rock Hard’ in honour of the seats and unbearable back pain after just 40 minutes and the fact it’s better to drive and fly now as a result. Or…

    Rough Rider
    Cluncking Undercarriage
    Cold and Souless Interior
