The Wensleydale Railway has announced that a private individual has purchased a locomotive, Class 31/4 No.31454, which following an overhaul, will join the line’s home fleet of engines.
No.31454
Although looking to be in a poor state, the locomotive is in good condition overall.
Once COVID-19 lockdown restrictions are lifted and locomotive maintenance staff can return, work will begin on overhauling the engine, with the aim of trying to complete 31454 ready for passenger service later this year.
One of the main benefits 31454 features being a 31/4 is electric train heating, allowing the locomotive to heat passenger trains, essential for winter train services.
All going well, 31454 can hopefully be ready to heat Polar Express trains run by the railway.
Supporting the Wensleydale Railway
The COVID-19 caused lockdown has forced the railway to close, meaning no income can be earned to pay essential bills. The Emergency Coronavirus Match Fund Appeal has been launched, with all donations made by the public being matched by a supporter of the line. Hopefully this Loco will be in good overhaul when it’s been preserved. Last time I saw the loco, it was at Westbury Station.
I hope this class 31 will be in working order, after a good overhaul. Last time I saw the loco it was at Westbury Station on a passenger train.
Very pleased with this result would be great day to see her back in service what are plans for the livery I hope that you pick green with small warning panel putting it back to her earlier years
Great News for the volunteer railway. Wensleydale Railway is a Great place and its people and staff volunteer tremendously and effortlessly in all aspects to make the Locomotive vains tingle. Well done and looking forward to getting to see the many tractions in action soon. In the meantime stay safe keep well.
Its a railway engine
it looks like it has a sad face if you look closely…
Hopefully we’ll see the sad face on this locomotive happy again! Look at the centre towards the bottom of the front Yellow panel. It’s a wee sad face.
Hopefully we’ll see a smile on the 31’s face instead of the present sad expression! Check the wee face on the middle around the footsteps!
