The Directors of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway have released a message thanking the public and members for the donations to their Covid-19 Appeal.

The Ff&WHR has said that the amount is well in excess of £100,000 that has been received from a variety of places, including members, the Society, the Society and the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways Trust and the Covid-19 Appeal.

The two railways meet at Porthmadog and make a 40-mile long railway from Caernarfon to Blaenau Ffestiniog via Waunfawr, Rhyd Ddu, Beddgelert, Porthmadog and Tan-y-bwlch but have been hit hard by the as no trains have been able to run.

What did they say?

The Directors of the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways said:

The events of the last month have been incredibly challenging for everyone – and our railways are no exception

No effort is being spared to ensure that our railways survive this crisis, so that we can all go on to enjoy them again in the years to come. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Ffestiniog Railway Society, the Welsh Highland Railway Society and the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways Trust. These organisations have worked together to give every support to the Company. Whilst there remains much uncertainty and much work to do, their immediate and significant help is of tremendous value.

The response to our appeal to members has seen an outpouring of support, reminding us of just how much our railways mean to so many people. We will be sharing details of the appeal with members in more detail in forthcoming publications, but an amount well in excess of a hundred thousand pounds has been received. These donations are incredibly important at a time when our ability to earn money through running trains is seemingly many months away.

Thank you again to each and every one of our supporters.

  1. If the Ffestiniog & the Welsh Highland Railways can successfully do it (As with some other Heritage Railways that have too also been successful on their respective appeals),

Then so can all other fellow Heritage Railways & Transportation Museums across the Beautiful British Isles can too.

And I wish them all Good Luck and Keep it up in anyways possible, to help tackle/combat this dreary Covid-19 period.

  2. Wow, That’s most certainly a lot of money well raised so far as part of this appeal the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways have to help combat/tackle this dreary period this Beloved Country’s bravely seeing through.

I always knew the Ffestiniog (which I myself once visited and rode aboard ‘in-person’) and Welsh Highland (which I passed/saw in-between whilst in Wales more than few years ago) would successfully succeed in fundraising this amount so far.

Well Done and Extra Good Luck to these two remarkable well-preserved Narrow-Gauge Railways by the way.
