The B17 Steam Locomotive Trust has published the latest update on the construction of their new build London and North Eastern Railway B17 ‘Sandringham’ Class No.61673 “Spirit of Sandringham”.

A big milestone has been reached in the building of 61673 “Spirit of Sandringham”, with design work for the majority of the rolling chassis components pretty much finished.

Some parts have been redesigned, to incorporate roller bearings, for instance, to ensure greater reliability and reduce maintenance once in service.

With design work completed, requests for quotations have been sent out to potential contractors for the manufacture of the following parts.

  • William Cook Cast Products Ltd – Axle Box Castings, Horn Block, Horn Stay Castings, Wheel Insert Castings and Cannon Box Castings
  • Railway Wheelset and Brake Ltd – Plain Axle Forgings and Machining
  • Timken UK Ltd – Roller Bearings
  • South Devon Railway Engineering Ltd – Tyres
  • Somers Forge – Crank Sweep Webb
  • Lucchini RS (Based in Italy) – Crank Stub Axles and Crank Pin (in collaboration with the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust for their V4 project)

Other quotes are currently being produced for further parts.
