The Spa Valley Railway has announced that steam locomotive No 2890 Douglas will be visiting them in 2020 on loan.
2890 Douglas will visit the Spa Valley Railway, based in Royal Tunbridge Wells, until March 2021. The locomotive is expected to arrive at the heritage line in June 2020.
Douglas will join resident steam locomotives RSH No. 62 ‘Ugly’ and Austerity ‘Norman‘ once its overhaul is complete.
The visit of 2890 Douglas to the Spa Valley Railway is thanks to Andy Booth, the owner of the locomotive. 2890 Douglas usually is based at the East Lancashire Railway.
History of Douglas
Originally built as a 0-6-0ST for the War Department, numbered 75041. In preservation, renumbered 2890 and named Douglas, the engine was rebuilt as 0-6-0 tender engine, based on No. 10 Douglas from the Thomas the Tank Engine programme.
The engine currently wears NWR Black (North Western Railway – as featured in Thomas the Tank Engine).
