Northern has announced that they will be officially opening a brand new train in depot in Wigan today (Friday 7th February 2020).
The new depot is thanks to a multi-million-pound investment by the Department for Transport.
With the investment, Network Rail has been able to construct a new train depot next to an existing freight train yard at Springs Branch in Ince-in-Makerfield, Wigan, Greater Manchester.
Located just off the West Coast mainline, the depot provides additional space for Northern to stable and maintain 24 electric and 8 diesel trains overnight.
The facility has also created nearly 20 new jobs.
