The Mid Hants Railway has released an update on the final pieces of work to station before the 2020 season begins.

Attention has turned to get Alton station ready to welcome the first visitors in over a year.

The rails are coated in a lot of rust and it’s important that this is clear before trains start running again as it can cause issues with the track circuit equipment.

The resident Class 47 has been to Alton for stock movement and initial testing of the signalling.

The Class 20 has also visited the station with an engineers train, clearing up equipment that has been decommissioned by the S&T department.

The lineside from Medstead to Alton is being tidied up by the Permanent Way Department.

Around the station, the focus has turned to tidying and final preparation, completing notice boards and helping the railway shop team with preparation.

All of the station notice boards are now sporting the new period posters.

The railway has also been repainting the Information Kiosk so that it now resembles a period WH Smith Kiosk
