Northern and Network Rail has announced that they are working together to unveil a new, improved, car park for rail passengers at Bredbury, near Stockport.
The station car park has suffered from poor drainage and during recent heavy rain it has caused localized flooding in the area.
This week Network Rail has been on-site to improve the drainage and resurface the whole car park.
Work on the car park is set to continue until Monday 27 January with some overnight closures necessary.
What did the officials say?
Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern, said:
“We are absolutely committed to delivering the best possible journey experience for our customers whether that is buying tickets, travelling on our trains, or parking at our stations.
“The work being carried out by Network Rail will give our customers a more reliable parking area able to better cope with poor weather conditions.”
Phil James, North West route director at Network Rail, said:
“Making our railway and our stations more weather resilient for our customers is a big part of our putting passengers first initiative.
“This is why we’re delivering £40,000 of drainage improvements at Bredbury station’s car park, so that it can remain in use for passengers all year round.”
