Throughout the country, as introduces a new timetable they are to deliver a boost for customers, including more seats and services, along with a brand-new station.

The rail operator has announced the changes to the timetable from the 15th December 2019 and confirmed the opening of Robroyston station. They have also confirmed additional services in the North East of the country, extra seats in between Edinburgh and Glasgow, along with more peak seats on key services.

The brand new station offers new access to the network for all local residents, whilst also having 258 spaces that provide more park and ride facilities.

Between Inverurie, Dyce and Aberdeen, a new timetable will provide more than 50% more services. There will now be up to three trains per hour between these stations. Along with there being more direct journeys across Aberdeenshire between Inverurie, Stonehaven and Montrose.

These additions follow the completion of major improvements to the Aberdeen to Inverness line. Network Rail has successfully delivered more than 10 miles of new rail, which was part of a project in order to transform journeys for customers in this area.

Along the Edinburgh and Glasgow via Falkirk High route, for every peak service, the trains will have eight carriages. This will further increase the number of seats available for customers travelling between the two cities.

The Borders are to benefit from more seats during the busy morning peak, with two of the most popular morning services between Tweedbank and South Gyle having extra carriages.

What did the officials have to say?

David Simpson, ScotRail Operations Director, said:

“The improvements we are making to our timetable from December will deliver even more benefits for our customers, delivering more seats, more services, and a new station in the north east of Glasgow.

“The £475 million investment in new and upgraded trains and the infrastructure improvements across the country are all part of building the best railway Scotland has ever had.”

Bill Reeve, Transport Scotland’s Director of Rail said:

“Passengers will welcome many of the changes up and down the country, particularly the additional services in the north east and the new Robroyston station just outside Glasgow. This shows our significant investment is delivering more seats and more services than ever before.”
