The has released an update on the overhaul progress of steam locomotive 1466.

The locomotive’s wheels are now down at the South Devon Railway awaiting a new set of tyres and polish on the thrust face.

A large amount of work is being carried out on the motion because before it was withdrawn, the reverser shaft was set too far one way causing unnecessary side loading and wear on the valve gear.

The bottom slide bars are, apart from a few, close to scrapping size, so the project is looking at getting 4 new ones made.

The steam brake piston was not for coming out of its bore, but with a bit of persuasion, it was removed.

The boiler is having all of the copper stays that are left in the backplate removed. A quote for a new tubeplate has been received so an order can be made to have a new one manufactured.
