Class 40 locomotive set to be replaced by steam locomotives at the Severn Valley

Jonathan Dunster has announced that , 40106, has been withdrawn from winter service on the due to problems with the steam heat boiler.

The loco itself is still serviceable, but the steam heat boiler is necessary to heat the coaches throughout the winter period.

It is hoped that 40106 will re-enter service on the 17th November 2019.

However, until then, steam locomotives from the Severn Valley Railway’s steam fleet will fill in for the Class 40.

About 40106

40106 is a Class 40 diesel locomotive that is owned by the Class 40 Preservation Society, and carries the nameplates ‘Atlantic Conveyor’. The class 40 is currently on loan to the SVR and is to be replaced by classmate 40135 when available.
