To give disadvantaged families from across the North a chance to explore some of the great cities or enjoy a trip to the seaside, have teamed up with the Family Holiday Association.

The train company will be providing complimentary travel to applicable families to towns and cities across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. With journeys to include Cleethorpes to Sheffield, Hull to Leeds, Middlesbrough to York and Scarborough to York.

It is estimated that the partnership will benefit up to 40 families including over 80 children over the course of 2019.

The Family Holiday Association is the only national charity dedicated to helping struggling families get a break.

For over 40 years they have been providing holidays and day trips for UK families struggling with issues such as disability, severe and sudden illness, bereavement, mental health issues and domestic violence.

The majority of families helped by the charity have never before been on a family holiday and for many, this may well be their first trip to the seaside or first visit to the city.

They are delivering a £500million investment in new services, extra seats and brand new Nova trains by 2020.

This will totally transform the on-board travelling experience for customers.

What did the officials have to say?

Speaking about the partnership, Martin Realey, Chief Executive of the Family Holiday Association said:

“We are excited to be working with TransPennine Express. For many of the families we help, transport is a big barrier to taking a meaningful break.

“The offer of complimentary travel will help families to access a much need and often life changing trip away, giving them a break from whatever challenges that are facing at home and creating precious memories to last a lifetime.”

Commenting on the partnership, Charlie French, Accessibility and Integration Manager for TransPennine Express said:

“We’re proud to have partnered with the Family Holiday Association and pleased to be able to make this contribution to support families and provide a fun-filled day to remember.

“We have a vision to Take the North Further and are committed to supporting local communities right across our network and connect people with the key cities and their attractions and activities right across the North.”
