Jonathan Jones Pratt (also known as JJP), the Chairman of the West Somerset Railway PLC, has announced that he has purchased Great Western Railway 94XX Tank No.9466.
9466 for Sale
Last year in 2018, Dennis Howells sadly passed away. He had owned and maintained 9466 for several years with the help of the 9466 Locomotive Group, which saw the tank haul mainline tours for Vintage Trains, along with heading trains across heritage lines in the UK.
Following his passing, the Howells family decided 9466 should be placed up for sale, with interested parties sending in bids during May 2019.
Following discussions, JJP’s offer was accepted, who is honoured to now own this fantastic little engine.
New Home
9466 will be leaving its current home of Quainton soon, where it will head for the West Somerset Railway. The tank joins JJP’s collection of steam engines which includes two other GWR locomotives, ‘Hall’ Class No.4936 (undergoing overhaul at Tyseley Locomotive Works) and ‘Castle’ Class No.7027 (undergoing restoration to full working order).

I thougt 9466 was too heavy for the WSR
Hi Josh,
I believe it is at the minute, however, I’m not sure if there are other plans for the locomotive since it has mainline equipment.
Regards
Michael

Maybe in the past, but haven’t they had a King running in recent years?
