South Western Railway has announced that Tim Moss, from Southampton, was February’s lucky passenger to win the value of his Annual Season Ticket.

Mr Moss won nearly £6,000 in SWR’s prize draw by switching to the Touch Smartcard.

SWR’s ‘Renew without the queue’ campaign encourages customers to replace their paper Season tickets with the Touch Smartcard by automatically entering them into a prize draw.

Each month until 30 April 2019, Weekly, Monthly, Monthly Plus or Annual Season ticket customers can win back the value of their ticket when they switch.

The Touch Smartcard is free and easy to use. Customers can buy and manage their Season or Single and Return journey tickets online.

Automated Delay Repay will also be introduced from spring this year for Season ticket Smartcard holders.

February’s other competition winner is Mr Jamie Slingo from Aldershot, he won the value of his Weekly Season ticket.

What did the officials say?

Tim Moss, SWR passenger and prize winner, said:

“I was absolutely delighted to hear that I had won the price of my season ticket in the monthly draw. I suspect there will be some negotiations held with my family as to how best to spend the cash. I can imagine it going towards an extra holiday this year, which will be a real treat for us all.”

Craig Josey, SWR’s Senior Retail Strategy Manager, said:

“Congratulations to Tim for winning the value of his season ticket – a very large amount.

“The simplicity and convenience of our free Touch Smartcard means customers can buy and manage their tickets online without ever having to queue to buy or replace paper tickets ever again. And in the spring, we’ll see the role out of automated Delay Repay for some Season ticket holders.

is making smart-ticketing faster and more secure than ever. And with the chance to win back the full value of their ticket, it’s never been a better time for our customers to switch.”

  1. What about South Western Railway (SWR) to allow other passengers who use SWR smart cards would be awarded with a big check and large amounts of money and possibly few months free travel by traveling on SWR trains who commute into London Waterloo from places including Southampton, Portsmouth, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Guildford, Wimbledon and many other places that SWR operates to. At least SWR are being generous to this man who has won £5,880 which isn’t too far from £6,000. But at least this passenger is very happy.
