Network Rail has announced that nearly 700 metres of railway track through Beaconsfield is planned to be replaced.
This work is part of Network Rail‘s Railway Upgrade Plan.
The £1m improvements to the Chiltern main line in Buckinghamshire will take place overnight from February until Tuesday 2 April 2019.
Track will gradually be replaced over 16 nights and during one-weekend closure of the railway (9 and 10 February) when trains aren’t running.
Also whilst the work is taking place, Network Rail will be carrying out work to help prepare for Britain’s new high-speed railway at West Ruislip.
A better railway through the area means smoother and more reliable journeys for passengers.
What did the officials say?
Andrew Mulholland, scheme project manager at Network Rail said:
“Our £1m work to renew the railway through Beaconsfield station forms part of our Railway Upgrade Plan. This is to create smoother and more reliable journeys for Chiltern Railways’ passengers.
Alan Riley, customer services director of Chiltern Railways explains:
“We appreciate that engineering work is disruptive to our customers and we are doing everything we can to minimise this disruption. It is essential that anyone travelling during this period checks their journey before they travel at www.journeycheck.com/chilternrailways, as this will impact all our routes.
“We also recommend purchasing tickets in advance from our website or app to save time at stations and guarantee the best price.”

2 new through fast tracks is ideal at Beaconsfield. To improve a much better service whilst keeping the 2 existing tracks that will be used as a passing loop for trains that will stop at Beaconsfield.
Stations on the Chilter route need more than track upgrades; they need platform loops restoring to allow fast services to pass and thus to increase capacity on the line.

A new set of tracks to allow faster trains to pass through Beaconsfield and to improve reliability. Whilst the remaining tracks will be used as a stop off/loop for trains that stops at Beaconsfield.
