Steam locomotive 44871 heading for the Mid Hants Railway this Friday!

Steam locomotive 44871 will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Brentford and Woking on Friday 14th December 2018.

The Black 5 is on a special railtour tomorrow. 44871 is hauling The Cathedrals Express on Friday.

The railtour departs Ashford International behind the steam locomotive at approximately 08:15 am.

The railtour will then leave Ashford International, bound for Alton / Alresford, where it will head via Charing (08:45), Lenham (08:53), Hollingbourne (08:58), Maidstone East (09:06), East Malling (09:28), Borough Green and Wrotham (09:38), Swanley (10:14), St Mary Cray (10:17), Bromley South (10:26), Ravensbourne (10:35), Catford (10:43), Nunhead (10:54), Brixton (11:02), Clapham High Street (11:05), Wandsworth Road (11:07) and West Brompton (11:28) before arriving into Kensington Olympia at 11:32.

After 2 minutes, the train will leave Kensington Olympia and will then continue via Shepherds Bush (11:35), Acton Central (11:48), Brentford (12:00), Hounslow (12:04), Ashford (12:15), Staines (12:17), Chertsey (12:33), Woking (13:03), Brookwood (13:11), Ash Vale (13:24) and Aldershot (13:33) before arriving into Alton at 14:02, from here, the train will head along the Mid Hants Railway to Alresford.

After around 3 hours in Alresford, the train will depart Alton at 18:43, bound for Ashford International. It will once again pass through Bentley (18:51), Farnham (19:04), Camberley (19:34), Ascot (19:46), Staines (20:17), Hounslow (20:27), Brentford (20:31) and Acton Central (20:38) before arriving into Willesden S.W.S at 20:44.

Here, a diesel locomotive replaces 44871 at the helm of the train. The diesel locomotive will trace its morning’s route via Wandsworth Road (21:16), Nunhead (21:30), Bromley South (21:45), Borough Green and Wrotham (22:14), Maidstone East (22:27), Charing (22:47) and finally Ashford International (22:58).
