Network Rail is advising rail passengers to check before they travel as work continues to upgrade the signalling system and level crossings in East Yorkshire.

The £50 million upgrade is part of the Great North Rail Project and involves installing new signals along 23 miles of track between Ferriby, Gilberdyke and Saltmarshe. Part of this upgrade involves moving control of the signalling from lineside signal boxes to the rail operating centre in York.

This will create a more modern and reliable railway for passengers. In addition, 11 level crossings will be enhanced with newer technology which will make them safer for motorists and pedestrians.

Due to the nature of the work, on the weekend of Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 November, no trains will be able to run on the lines between Selby and Hull.

There will be bus replacements between Selby and Howden; between Brough and Hull; between Selby and Hull and between Goole and Hull calling at all stations.

A bus replacement service will also be in place between Saturday 1 December to Monday 3 December when the final piece of the upgrade takes place and control of the signalling and the renewed level crossings moves into the York Control Centre.

“Safety is our top priority and all these changes will create a safer, more modern and reliable railway for the communities and economies we serve. We appreciate that the upgrade is bringing disruption to travellers this weekend and we apologise for any inconvenience and thank them in advance for their patience whilst we deliver these important improvements.”
