UPDATED: Where and when to see steam locomotive 60009 Union of South Africa in London and Norwich this Sunday

UPDATE 00:30 on 23/09/2018: It has just been announced that 60009 Union of South Africa will no longer be fit to haul this train due to a fault being found.

At the current time, we don’t know what is taking its place. However it is looking unlikely to be a steam locomotive.

 

Steam locomotive No.60009 Union of South Africa will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in London and Norwich on Sunday 24th September 2018.

The A4 locomotive is on a special rail tour from London Kings Cross to Norwich.

The steam locomotive will depart the London Kings Cross at approximately 09:45 am.

The railtour will then leave the London Kings Cross, bound for Norwich, where it will steam through Finsbury Park (09:51), Harringay (09:52) and Alexandra Palace (09:55), Palmers Green (09:58) and Gordon Hill (10:06) before stopping at Hertford North at 10:25.

After a 5-minute break, the locomotive will depart Hertford North and will pass through Watton-at-Stone (10:37) before arriving into Stevenage at 10:47. Departing Stevenage for Norwich, it will pass through Hitchin (10:55), Letchworth (11:01) and Foxton (11:25) before arriving into Cambridge at 11:36.

Departing Cambridge at 11:39, the A4 Pacific will head through Ely (stop at 12:32), Thetford (13:00) and Wymondham (13:21).

The steam locomotive will arrive in Norwich at 13:35.

On the return journey, 60009 Union of South Africa will depart Norwich at 17:15, the train will take the same route back to London Kings Cross. The train will pass through Wymondham (17:28), Thetford (17:49), Ely (stop at 18:36), Cambridge (18:58) and Cambridge (19:01).

From Cambridge, the train will pass through Foxton (19:13), Royston (19:20), Stevenage (20:10) and Hertford North (20:26) before arriving back into London Kings Cross at 20:59.
