Where and when to see a steam locomotive in Hellifield and Carlisle this Tuesday

No. 48151 on the Settle and Carlisle

Steam locomotive 48151 will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in and around Hellifield and Carlisle on Tuesday 11th September 2018.

The locomotive is on a special railtour by Steam Dreams on Tuesday 11th September 2018. 48151 is hauling The Cathedrals Express. The tour sees the steam locomotive steam through Settle, Ribblehead, and Appleby on its way to Carlisle.

The train will depart behind diesel locomotives from Radlett at approximately 06:07 am.

The railtour will then leave Radlett, bound for Carlisle, where it will make stops at St Albans (06:13), Bedford (06:46), Kettering (07:10), Leicester (08:03), Loughborough (08:19), East Midlands Parkway (08:32), Chesterfield (09:30) – where it will then head via Swinton (09:57) to get to Shipley (11:21).

From Shipley, the train will head via Keighley (11:38) to get to Hellifield at 12:07.

Here, steam locomotive No.48151 will be attached to the train for the run up the Settle and Carlisle line.

Departing Hellifield, the train will head via Ribblehead (13:02), Garsdale (13:16), Appleby (13:40) and Lazonby & Kirkoswald (14:14) before arriving into Carlisle at 14:36.

On the return trip, the steam locomotive depart Carlisle at 16:41 for the return trip down the Settle and Carlisle line via Lazonby & Kirkoswald (17:04), Appleby (17:26), Kirkby Stephen (17:53), Garsdale (18:05), Ribblehead (18:20) before arriving at Hellifield at 18:49.

Departing Hellfield at 19:17, the diesels that replace 48151 will take the train via Keighley (19:38), Shipley (19:50), Moorthorpe (20:54), Chesterfield (21:30), Ilkeston (22:06), East Midlands Parkway (22:21), Loughborough (22:33), Leicester (22:48), Kettering (23:24), Bedford (23:53) and St Albans (00:29) before arriving into Radlett at 00:37.
