Steam locomotive in Crewe this Saturday – where and when to see it!

46100 Royal Scot

Steam locomotive Royal Scot will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in and around Crewe on Saturday 8th September 2018.

The locomotive is on a special railtour on Saturday, 8th September 2018. 46100 is hauling the William Shakespeare. The tour sees the steam locomotive steam through Stafford and Birmingham on its way to Stratford-upon-Avon.

The train will depart Preston behind a diesel locomotive at approximately 08:01 am.

The railtour will then leave Preston and head via Wigan North Western (08:17), Warrington Bank Quay (08:30), Acton Bridge (08:43), and Hartford (08:54) to get to Crewe, where will arrive at 09:09 am.

At Crewe, 46100 Royal Scot is attached to the train. From Crewe, it will head via Stafford (10:14) and Birmingham New Street (11:53) to get to Stratford-upon-Avon, where it will arrive at 12:52.

On the return trip, the steam locomotive will head via Birmingham New Street (17:46), Stafford (19:20) to get back to Crewe, arriving back at 15:00.

Here, 46100 Royal Scot is taken off the train, a diesel locomotive will head via Hartford (20:34), Warrington Bank Quay (20:47) and Wigan North Western (21:01) before arriving into Preston at 21:20.
