The Wensleydale Railway has announced that steam locomotive No.65894 will be visiting the line until the end of August 2018.
The J27, appearing thanks to the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, will be running Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from the 31st July and the 27th August 2018.
The J27 has only just been restored back to steam by the NELPG, so this is your chance to see a sparkling locomotive running up and down the Dale.
The Wensleydale Railway is also anticipating the arrival of a Mk1Â carriage that featured in the Harry Potter film series.
A brief history of No.65894
J27 No. 65894, or NER P3 2392, was outshopped from Darlington North Road Works in September 1923. It had a working life under the NER around Darlington, Durham, and York. When the railways were nationalised, P3 2392 became a BR J27 and was numbered 65894. In BR days, it worked around York before working the last diagrammed steam run from Sunderland Shed in September 1967. The locomotive was retired from BR service swiftly after this and along with four other survivors, 65894 was sent to Tyne Dock for disposal.
The NELPG bought the locomotive directly from British Rail on December 1st, 1967. A full overhaul followed this, after which, the locomotive was delivered to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in October 1971, where she has stayed since.
