The Great Little Trains of Wales, working with the Community Rail Officers of Wales have announced that they have accepted an invitation from Network Rail to stage a week-long event in Birmingham.
The event will be held in the atrium of the newly revamped Birmingham New Street station to promote travel into Wales by train.
The star of the show will be Fairbourne locomotive ‘Sherpa’ who will be set in a seaside themed stage. Fairbourne Railway really is the ‘Seaside Railway’ running from Fairbourne to Barmouth Ferry.
A through service runs from Birmingham New Street to Aberystwyth or Pwllheli, via Shrewsbury, Welshpool and Machynlleth. Then onto Aberystwyth via Dovey Junction and Borth.
Alternatively, turning to the north at Dovey Junction will take you along the Cambrian Coast to Pwllheli via Tywyn (Talyllyn Railway), Fairbourne (Fairbourne Railway), Barmouth (Barmouth Bridge), Harlech (Harlech Castle), Porthmadog (Ffestiniog Railway, Welsh Highland Railway to Caernarfon and Welsh Highland Heritage Railway).

Also worth noting you can take a bus from Machynlleth train station to Corris (Corris Railway). If you catch the T2 service on the weekend it is even free!
Thank you for that extra information, Ben! Didn’t know about the T2
Regards,
Michael
