The Dean Forest Railway has announced the second visiting steam locomotive for its Royal Forest of Steam event in June.
Courtesy of the Bristol Harbour Railway, steam locomotive IW&D No. 34 ‘Portbury’ will be making its trip to the event.
This is a fine addition to the line up I’m sure you will agree.
Tickets for this event can be found by clicking here.
The Royal Forest of Steam event will be taking place on the 15th-17th June 2018.
A brief history of No. 34 ‘Portbury’
No. 34 ‘Portbury’ was built in 1917 by the Avonside Engine Company. Recently celebrating her 100th anniversary, the locomotive spent a working life at the docks of Avonmouth and Portishead.
She was donated to the City Museums Technology Collection in 1964 alongside her sister ‘Henbury’. Portbury was brought back to steam in 1988 and can now be regularly seen steaming along the Bristol Harbourside at the Bristol Harbour Railway. She is seen in authentic Inland Waterways and Docks Board battleship grey.
More announcements will be made soon.
