The 82045 Steam Locomotive Trust have recently released their February 2018 update, with the progress made on building No. 82045.
A step closer to a rolling chassis
The coupled wheelset’s axleboxes are now completed and fitted. The middle wheelset is currently having journals tried with the axleboxes and measurements taken to ensure the axleboxes fit into horn guides.
Now good progress has been made, the trust can now start to arrange for the frame to be lifted onto the wheelsets.
Once a rolling chassis, the engine can be moved around much easier, hopefully allowing the engine to move into the main workshop later this year.
Work on smaller parts
Machining of various parts is in progress. This includes the piston heads and brake shaft bearings. Machining is due to start on the valve heads and reversing shaft bearings soon. Smaller parts such as pins and bushes are also being made.
Planning is underway for fitting the lubrication system, which features many brackets to hold pipework, all of which need to be produced before they can be fitted.
