Second visiting steam locomotive announced for Severn Valley Railway’s Autumn Steam Gala

The (SVR) has announced that LNER Q6 No. 63395 will be the second visiting guest for their Autumn Steam Gala.

About 63395

No. 63395 // Credit: North York Moors Railway

Originally built for the North Eastern Railway (NER) and part of the T2 class, 63395 was built in 1918. The Q6s were designed to haul the heaviest freight trains, surviving into both London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and British Railways (BR) ownership.

Purchased from BR by the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) in 1968, 63395 is the only Q6 to be preserved. After steaming in the 70s and 80s, the engine became a static display for roughly two decades before an overhaul started, returning to steam in September 2007.

63395 is currently undergoing an overhaul at the .

About the Autumn Steam Gala

LMS Princess Coronation No.6233 “Duchess of Sutherland” is the first visiting guest for the Gala, SVR’s biggest Steam Gala. More guests will be announced for this event closer to the time.
