The Bluebell Railway has released information on the completion of the boilers for steam locomotives No. 34059 “Sir Archibald Sinclair” and No. 21C123 “Blackmoor Vale”.
The new inner firebox for No. 34059 is complete, it has also been passed by the boiler insurance inspector. It has been trial-fitted to the outer wrapper of the firebox.
The new gusset plate at the back of the crown plate has been riveted into position, this helps give support to the rear of the firebox.
The outer wrapper sheets are both being renewed, with that on the driver’s side awaiting fitting. Marking out and the drilling of stays is underway with around 2,200 stays required.
The Bluebell Railway hope that the fitting of the new inner firebox to the outer wrapper and its associated welding, marking out and drilling for the stays will be completed before the boiler returns to the railway around Easter time.
Work on No. 21C123 has concentrated on the components for the new inner firebox. They have been prepared and now await welding.
