CTL Seal, who is based in Sheffield, has been progressing well at building the frame for steam locomotive 72010 “Hengist”, along with progress on the new storage container and the launch of an appeal.
We recently did a ‘Project Information’ article on the Clan project, where we look into the history of the class, history of the project and also the progress of the build. If you would like to read the Project Information before you read this update, please click here
Frame
CTL Seal has received the frame horn keeps. This helps produce a strong structure to the frame, also helping to line up the axle boxes in place. They will require machining before they are fitted to the frame.
At the front end of the frame, the smokebox saddle has been soft bolted to the frame.
At the opposite end, the frame extension for the rear of the frame is currently unbolted next to the Frame.
Storage Container
The storage container kept at CTL Seal has been given a lick of paint to brighten the interior up. Shelving and lighting will be fitted shortly to the container. To power the lighting, solar panels will be installed on the roof of the container.
The Genesis Appeal
The ‘Clan’ Project has released an appeal to help raise the finances needed to complete the construction of 72010’s Frame at CTL Seal. The project has split the funding into 5 stages. Stages 1 & 2 have been completed but stage 3,4 and 5 need to be met in order to finish the frame. For more Information on the Genesis Appeal, please click here
